Karen Cheung-Hing

Hi, I'm Karen! I'm a CELTA and IPA-qualified English pronunciation coach who gets a lot of satisfaction from helping non-native speakers to improve the clarity of their spoken English.

I've worked in English pronunciation since 2013 and have taught students from over 65 different countries. My students have varied backgrounds, including architects, solicitors, financial analysts and interpreters, but also actors and university students. I have taught people at Google, BBC, Barclays, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Citi, SAS, Marks & Spencer, Burberry, Coca-Cola and LSBU.

I trained for my IPA at Pronunciation Studio and worked there for 4 years before branching out on my own. I also spent a very enjoyable two years teaching kids in Bangkok, before returning to the UK.

Qualifications

IPA (International Phonetic Association / University College London, 2014)
Certificate of Proficiency in the Phonetics of English
The IPA certificate is the most relevant qualification for pronunciation training. Preparation for the exam involves studying not only the sounds of English, but also the sounds made in other languages. This gives a far greater understanding of the problems faced by speakers of English as a second language.

Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults

MBBS (Imperial College London, 2008)
Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery
